In a significant move to foster cross-continental collaboration and address common educational challenges, the African Union (AU), in partnership with the Observatory of Relations between Latin America, the Caribbean, and the European Union (OBREAL) and the Association of African Universities, convened the 2nd Interregional Dialogue on Education and Development in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The esteemed Rector of Himilo University, Dr. Abdikarin Adan Hussein, was among the distinguished attendees who graced the occasion, representing the institution’s commitment to the AU’s Year of Education 2024 initiative.
The two-day conference served as a platform for educational leaders and policymakers from Latin America, the Caribbean, and Africa to come together and share innovative solutions to the common challenges faced by their respective regions. The dialogue was particularly timely, as it coincided with the African Union’s dedicated focus on education as a key driver of sustainable development.
The conference agenda covered a wide range of topics, including the role of technology in advancing education, strategies for improving access and equity, and the cultivation of skills necessary for the 21st-century workforce. Participants engaged in in-depth discussions, panel sessions, and working group activities to identify practical solutions that can be tailored to the unique contexts of each region.
